It works fine for me. Check where the items are coming from.
Also, there is only a certain, say 70%, chance metal detectors go off, or dogs smell something. You have to do multiple layers of protection.

Make sure you move the mod to the top of your mods list with the arrows in the mods menu, its proberbly being overwritten. If you go into intelligence -> dangers it should show Needle for example, as Narcotics, Metal, Smelly.
Just because all contraband is detectable, doesn't mean you will get it all. You still need sniffer dogs and metal detectors to catch everyone

what would be cool is a x-ray machine. It would be very expensive (20k) and take up ~4 bars in the electrical system. It detects everything and would be hard to get in the tech-tree. I would make this, but I have no experience in modding ;)

Also, I don't think an extra tag should even be needed. A nice feature would be if you could set certain doors so that after a prisoner has left they must be searched by a guard, and thus solving the problem.

We need an actual system where guards can see prisoners giving contraband and receiving it. For example I have a canteen with 5 guards stationed in it, and prisoners working in it, but the prisoners can still take knives out of the food coming in, but that shouldnt happen
If a prisoner had a suspicious looking massive wooden club in their shirt, i would be suspisious as a guard.
What would be good is if prisoners textures changed very slightly if they had contraband so you can see a buldge
But yeah, it is really hard to talk to Introversion.

The funnier thing is, I have cameras in every room and people still die of overdose and somehow get clubs knives and manage to dig holes to escape. With guards watching at all times, this shouldn't be possible. But, it often is. This game is way too unbalanced with prison management. :P Guards are basically dumbasses and can't spot a hole or missing prisoner unless they go inside the cell, and look at the hole under the toilet. Even worse, no matter what the floor is, you can't stop them. I could probably place down steel flooring that could withstand the impact of a couple of sticks of TNT and they'd dig through it. Meh. Maybe I'll join the forum and express my thoughts but in my experience most developers tend to ignore people. :P

Ah, I guess so. However, wooden clubs should not be smelly or metal. There should be a new tag, "hardtohide" making the item always detectible when searched.

When a nurse sticks a needle in you, does it smell bad? No. You can't smell the stuff contained inside the needle. Nor is alcohal, unless the container is open.

And I agree, the contraband system is very very stupid, relying on random spawns and random detection rates.
I tested with a prison with metal detectors on every door, prisoner screening, sniffer dogs everywhere.

I don't know how to do this unfortunatly, with the way prison architect mods are programmed im not sure I could edit core mechanics like item spawning unless I was an expert at LUA (Which I am not).
But I can make a version where it is realistic in the sense that only metal items are metal, needles are still smelly and metal etc but it would be a very small mod

Well, you could make a copy of the mod and use some more realistic methods for contraband. I'm a little annoyed with the game though, because contraband appears out of thin air. People locked in their cells 24/7 still end up shitting cell phones out of no where, shivs, poison, batons, clubs, spades, drugs, everything just falls out of their ass. I can do shake downs every single time one finishes and find more and more crap. In fact, I might be able to cut a guy up into little centimeter sized cubes, strip his flesh off his body, sow it all back on, put him in a padded empty no window no door cell, and go back in there 5 minutes later and find that he has 3 drugs, a cell phone, and a pickaxe.

My aim was just to make everthing detectable, and the reason I made the mod is so the wooden club, pickaxe etc are easily detectable. Sadly im not knowledgable enough to make jars openable etc etc

I was hoping for a mod that makes contraband realistically detectable and combines all items into one, because I don't want to be subscribing to 50 different contraband detection items. :P

Items with metal in them, should be detectable with the metal detector. Booze is not smelly unless the bottle/jar is open, it shouldn't produce a smell unless the person is drunk. Needles aren't smelly, but they do have a metal tip which metal detectors can detect. Wooden clubs are not metal, they are wood, however, they tend to be large and hard to conceal.
