I think I'll go ahead and make it all class.
I don't think a multi-colored hat is novel enough for BTTF creators to be able to lay claim to the idea. Maybe the combination of multi-colored hat and lenticular, color shifting material is though. Valve is unlikely to accept the source code changes for the color shifting effect anyway, so I think we're safe.

But if it is added, I think it will become a Halloween item.
