For ship defense it would be a nightmare shooting the crap out of everything. However if you send it to board an enenmy vessel that's a diffrent story. :) Heck maybe encapsulate it inside of spear type craft that would punch a hole in the enemy ship, then this thing would pop out and go to town.

It can squeeze through regular doors, you can't get more compact than that.
