Just to confirm, if you happen to know, their bird was already adult yeah? or smallbird still? or teenbird? All good if you're not certain, I will try to test the whole process from start to finish before I might upload a new version of the mod in any case.
Sorry btw for the crash, were you able to reload your save minus tallbird mod? If you then saved, would enabling the tallbird mod be possible again? Not a long term solution, just wondering.
I did subscribe to my own mod because I can't find the original files, and it's.. interesting what I ended up doing to make things work at the time XD
I sat for a few in-game days trying to go through the process of hatching an egg, raising the smolbird, teenbird, etc. and it was sort of mostly successful, though I did crash at a couple points. I'm interested to see where and why things don't work anymore, and if I can maybe fix em, just I barely knew how to mod this game in the first place, so that might all take a hot minute.
If you have a specific error message to provide from a crash, that would help me be more certain I've addressed the problem you found, but I will keep in mind tamed tallbird crashes when player enters its attack/aggro area you say? I assume that's after a load when they no longer recognise you, else they'd never have left your range anyway?
@barfbin Sorry about that! I assume I can fix the wrong target issue, it just never woulda occurred to me that u could be "attacked" by something that isn't attack-able back! Poor birb just wants to defend u I think but he sees no aminal to attack except u lol I wonder does the same thing happen if u have a pigman companion, or any other?
@Gabe Newell u too if u want em hehe
I haven't played and modded DST for a very long time, and what I did is probably outdated, plus I never got it to do what I wanted- this was just what I could manage XD enjoy
not sure what's involved in giving npcs a head slot, tho i know the piggies can wear some hats so i guess that'd be a place to start. as for the health i quickly searched the interwebs and found this https://www.gog.com/forum/dont_starve/guide_to_modifying_the_game_files_in_dont_starve
they say u can edit hp and attack of things from the tuning.lua file, so you could probably poke around there to give tallbirds overall more/less health if u wanted.
Modding is fun hehe hope u enjoy success
i think it was an (easier?) option to create a new creature and give it a specific brain in the first place, but i wanted to make the mod effect all tallbirds, and idk if i was i supposed to create a new creature with a new brain and overwrite all tallbirds with it maybe? instead of putting a new brain in the birds?
i don't remember if you can force feed a wild tallbird and gain a friend with this mod actually lol i think it might be possible since i did everything i could to all of them if i remember right XD
With the update coming their eggs will be extremely useful, and this mod will help me a lot
i think maybe if u jump on the Klei forums and make a Mod Request/Suggestion post, someone might be up for it.
sadly i don't have any artistic talent, and it would need a new saddle model/tallbird with saddle model/animation probably, in order to actually show you riding it and running around on it. that and i haven't modded cool stuff in years lol i would have to re-learn how to mod at all XD
with the feeding adult birbs who forgot u, i think it almost always required facetanking at least one shot, if it does still work like i remember. sorry u had to kill ur buddy, i never got things to where i wanted them really
But I will try this again later with a new bird. Oh, I'll come back here to tell you if it worked. Thanks.
Another thing that I don't know if it's possible, but can you create saddles so we can ride tall birds like we ride beefalo? ^^
In the case of single player, each time you close your game, you close the server/world, so when you next return you would need to feed your birds again before they would remember you.
I believe I was able to feed an angry tallbird (that I had hatched) and make it my friend again after returning, but it's been literally years lol I don't entirely remember. If you made a tallbird army, this might cost you a lot of stone suits trying to feed them all when you get back XD
I never did it, but thinking about it you can possibly use a panflute to make them all sleep, then wake each up by feeding them, and I THINK it will all work out.
It's just that I usually play alone and I create my own world. So if I leave my world and go to sleep, the next day when I play the adult Tallbird will it attack me?
Aside from that, I think things are pretty restricted as to what we could do about what u describe.. Like it doesn't hatch on the boat because it's not within the game code to allow the birds to hatch there, and there isn't a boarding/de-boarding animation, so if it were to hatch or board it couldn't escape the boat and there's potentially no code present to deal with them starving or dying for any reason on the boat either.. also it wouldn't probably look right to have your bird or multiple birds just kinda standing on your position when youre on the boat.. in short Klei would have to really add it to the game to some degree before I could do anything about it. It might sorta kinda be doable for us peasants but it would be a lot of work and would surely be pretty janky :<
Best u can do i guess is take an egg with u and let it hatch on any given piece of land, but you kinda have to abandon ur baby when u leave
You gotta edit the bird brains, and anything I tried didn't seem to alter their behaviour.
