The Tallbird Mod

描述
Current Version 1.20: Craftable Nests, Configurable Smallbird, Teenbird and Tallbird rearing.

- Configurable Hatch and Grow times for your birds * as of v1.18, 999 days is an option to effectively keep your bird from becoming an adult *
- Birds whos master has left the server can latch onto a new parent
- Once grown up, birds will not suddenly become hostile (on/off configurable)
- *new* Tallbird Nests can now be crafted! (Easy/Hard/Disabled)
- Config defaults are now that of the stock game

Recipes are described when hovering over your selected difficulty in the Mods menu, however I will put 'em here too.

Easy: 6x Cut Grass, 6x Twigs, 1x Tallbird Egg
Hard: 6x Beefalo Wool, 6x Cut Grass, 1 Tallbird Egg
* Note * Tallbird Nests you build are exactly like the ones you find; an Adult tallbird will hatch shortly after placing the nest

Quick how-to for Tallbird raising:
- Warm an egg by a fire until it cracks (if it goes red ever, it's too hot where it is and can die if not rescued)
- Once cracked, the egg needs to spend (configurable) days total time being not too hot and not shivering from cold. Basically keep it by the fire in the evening and away from fire during the day is all you need to do to make it hatch
- Once hatched, baby tallbirds will eat only Seeds so make sure you have some!
- Teen birds will eat just about anything including monster meat with no penalty
- Once adult, your tallbirds will no longer follow you but also should not attack you (until server restart for the moment)
- Adult tallbirds you've raised should also join you in a nearby fight if they see/hear it going on

Thx @Soul_Manipulator, the chopped down version I'm messing with now might hopefully fix that at least. It's mega time consuming to work out how to do things even half-properly somehow >.<

The bird was still in it's smallbird stage. Removing the mod would let the game run as normal, now with a pissed off smallbird trying to kill you, but it would no longer crash.

@Soul_Manipulator thanks, that should help find the particular problem area. From what I can see so far I was probably manipulating every tallbird in the world, even if they spawned naturally in the wild, though I didn't mean to and I think specifically tried not to. I'm doing a lil cleaning up and working out what does what, but potentially my jank was what made it all work lol need a bit more testing time to see if I lost any functionality by cleaning, to then fix anything I might have lost.

Just to confirm, if you happen to know, their bird was already adult yeah? or smallbird still? or teenbird? All good if you're not certain, I will try to test the whole process from start to finish before I might upload a new version of the mod in any case.

Sorry btw for the crash, were you able to reload your save minus tallbird mod? If you then saved, would enabling the tallbird mod be possible again? Not a long term solution, just wondering.

Background info: was playing on a 6 player world with some friends, one of em hatched a tamed smallbird. Works for a while till the game updated. After update (don't remember update number) i tried to load into the world in singleplayer. I was standing multiple biomes away from the bird when i joined. As soon as any amount of the bird's sprite appeared on the screen, the entire game would freeze and crash. Otherwise everything functions as normal. Attempted to open as multiplayer and game would instantly crash as soon as original owner would load in, presumably from the same issue. I can try and find you a crash log if you'd like.

@Soul_Manipulator honestly I'm surprised anything still works after almost a decade!
I did subscribe to my own mod because I can't find the original files, and it's.. interesting what I ended up doing to make things work at the time XD

I sat for a few in-game days trying to go through the process of hatching an egg, raising the smolbird, teenbird, etc. and it was sort of mostly successful, though I did crash at a couple points. I'm interested to see where and why things don't work anymore, and if I can maybe fix em, just I barely knew how to mod this game in the first place, so that might all take a hot minute.

If you have a specific error message to provide from a crash, that would help me be more certain I've addressed the problem you found, but I will keep in mind tamed tallbird crashes when player enters its attack/aggro area you say? I assume that's after a load when they no longer recognise you, else they'd never have left your range anyway?

@hepburnrayne16 I think that's default for the game like if it spawns a nest in the world, it just does what it does. I didn't make a new special nest or anything I don't think, it just creates a vanilla tallbird nest where u place it. Will see if I can do anything about that but idk

@barfbin Sorry about that! I assume I can fix the wrong target issue, it just never woulda occurred to me that u could be "attacked" by something that isn't attack-able back! Poor birb just wants to defend u I think but he sees no aminal to attack except u lol I wonder does the same thing happen if u have a pigman companion, or any other?

Walking into view of a tamed Tallbird/Smallbird crashes the entire server.

unfortunately for me, when i pick a cactus around my tallbird he gets angry and starts attacking me

everytime i build a nest it instantlly spawns adult idk what issue there might be
