lightspeed is in fact a mesurement of speed. 299,792,458 meters per second.
I think what you're meaning is light year, which is a measurement of distance dispite its name.

Given the size of world with procedural generation, there's no reason to limit speeds. I hope to see speeds in excess of 1000m/s in the future...
While using this mod, I finally decided to use this feature and flipped the lever. But one of my commanders accidently hit it because he wasn't buckled down, and now we've gone plaid.
Is there any way to fix this? :(

1AU is the so called Astronomical Unit which equals the distance between the earth and the sun.
the rule of thumb is that it takes the light of the sun around 8.5 minutes to reach earth
so if one were to mod the speed of light into SE you would still have to fly nonstop
