Now i can!
But honestly, that really isn't a satisfactory way of doing things, as it doesn't really make sense to have different branches be entirely separate entities, nor did the branches even always exist. And then other land owning trade companies had their own different structures.
If you are referring to breaking free when playing as a trade company, this isn't really feasible at the moment; however, we do plan to make trade companies viable playable breakaway nations in our upcoming overhaul.
However, doing so turned out to be very troublesome, despite overriding the Rename Country Context Menu Action to be enabled on trade companies, allowing the Rename Country Dialog to appear, after confirming the name would stay the same, meaning the rename country function itself must have a separate check. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, that function is not accessible to mod and is hard-coded into the executable.
So, as a workaround, I set a flag in the Trade Company subject type to make it count as a Colonial Nation (but still is its own separate subject type). This allows Trade Companies to be renamed, but I am not sure if this will lead to any unintended consequences. I looked at all the obvious places (i.e., there is no 'start colonial war' option) and didn't see any issues, but if something comes up, I may have to revert and come up with a workaround.
But for the time being, renaming trade companies now works.
