@sludge princess Thanks for doing that! When I had seen that video about Flextalk, I installed it for myself and tried to see if I could configure it to match VOX's voice perfectly, since the settings in the video weren't as accurate. I fiddled with as many settings as possible, only to realise the one consistent difference that pretty much confirmed that it wasn't the original voice, but an emulation of it. That difference being the way it pronounced stuff. I can't really put it into words, but if you use the settings I have here [postscriptreal.github.io], type the word said in your chosen sound file (e.g facility.wav = facility) into Flextalk's speech box and compare it, it doesn't sound the same.

Perhaps when Alyx hacks the system that kills the prison announcer reverting back to standard Overwatch

would love a version of this where its glitchy and this and the default voice overlap to give the effect of the combine infrastructure having infected the early 2000s super prisons systems

amended the description to be more factually accurate

Also to dispel what the creator said about this being the "original software Valve used", it actually isn't the same program. The backstory behind the program and such is complicated, but essentially, the software that Kelly used for the VOX voice was Lucent Technologies' online TTS program. The voice that was used was called 'Big Man'.

This is not something I made up as this information is shared from a credible Google Spreadsheet that documents video game samples, and it also confirms that another TTS voice from the same program was used for some unused Combine Scanner lines. It just so happens that Lucent Technologies was formed after Bell Laboratories (the developers of Flextalk) spun off one of their divisions according to Wikipedia, so Flextalk happens to have a voice that sounds extremely similar to VOX, but isn't the actual voice.

TL;DR The actual software used was an online TTS program by Lucent Technologies, Flextalk just happens to have an extremely similar TTS voice.

@t5d6k3 Download Flextalk from the link provided from this video , setup a 32-bit Windows XP Virtual machine, get the setup files into the VM, install Flextalk and then go into Flextalk settings from the Control Panel. Set the options to how it is shown in the video from above and you'll have an accurate sound VOX voice.

It's really neat that it's the original software. It absolutely sounds authentic.
