cant figure out how to do the gifts around the tree

Yeah, I tried to make it harder because it was too easy.

I have placed everything under the tree but nothing happens, also, since the gifts from the hallway is not correct to use - you have to use the ones from the mail room - I would suggest to remove the keyitem symbol from those ones... I ran around the tree for way too long trying to place the wrong gifts.
