Good to know edits based on others' work is not an issue as long as credit is due and you don't bundle the full addon, only your edits. Kinda like Fair Use.

That inspired me to publish the Vampiric Cloak edit for the Lich King armor in Skyrim

please dont steal the entire source code, just add the original addon as a requirement instead, and instruct about the load order so that this overrides the textures.
