Description says they won't be making NSC patches themselves, but there's some people who make third-party (fourth-party?) mods that act as patches to make these shipsets NSC compatible. One of the main ones are on hiatus though, so it'd be good to wait a bit

ES2 is another great space 4X game that has an amazing soundtrack, beautiful graphics and cool factions. Should give it a look when you can.
