the mod is EFT Footsteps Sounds or something like this
not sure if it should be considered "realistic", though. i can get to top speed in very little time and that's pretty standard, it's just a matter of technique. if you don't want to feel like you're playing someone particularly agile, though, then this is realistic.
hl2/gmod have built-in acceleration mechanics which work identically to Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 2. check the cvar sv_acceleration, you'll find that it has a base value of 10. reduce it, and it'll take quite a bit to come to a full sprint.
this mod claims to "add acceleration", but the base game already has it. it likely just decreases sv_acceleration and has a poorly translated description (judging by the Russian that the author uses in comments).
in this addon you have to wait a moment for it to get to your sprinting speed, so it transitions from a walk to a jog to a sprint
