You can save the $phongexponenttexture as dxt1 instead of dxt5. It will look identical but cut the filesize in half since you're not using the alpha channel on those.

Yeah it's half instead of three quarter size. Quirk with how the compression works. The alpha is essentially a second texture with dxt.
