This is not overanimated, not one bit. Actual taunt, actual taunt I'd use 10/10. Fun and simple. Love the uniqueness for each class, especially Pyro.

We already have this taunt. It's called "saying no and moving your mouse left and right". It's a taunt, sure, it's just... redundant. It's also too fluid for TF2.

I would have expected more relaxed taunts but stuff like "Can it!" or any 'ridable' taunt, really excluding engineer taunts because they fit his character and make sense within the context of his character, even if it skirts the line of becoming self-parody to a degree) Are just way too far into the realm of fortnite, like the game is trying to appeal to children with how silly and wacky the actions they're performing are. The difference between a "Reserved" taunt and just straight up "Medic is driving an ambulance that he miraculously conjured out of thin air for a cheap gag. Get it? He's the doctor guy!! That's his whole character!"

There's a quote Funke said in his Death of an Artstyle video that's "There's a fine line between contextually comical and just stupid"

Of course the old tropes have been extremely laxed in the recent taunts added because a lot of people didn't notice or care about the original game's integrity and how the overanimated taunts astroturf over the pre-2010s themes of the game. I'm not a TF2 'purist', by any means like I'm not going to pretend pyro doing a hadouken is pertinent to "TF2's SOVL" or anything, it was a fun novelty since it felt pretty rare for games to reference other games, it wasn't just something expected which is my justification for "Why 'this' isn't okay but 'this' is". The amount of taunts in the game that are less taunts and more a reflection of the modern landscape of gaming and expected optional purchasable emotes

Overanimated means when the mercs are borderline parodying themselves. When the Pyro is too fruity and feminine, when the scout is animated like cuphead and moves like a string-bean. It's playing into the tropes TOO much. Instead of being reserved enough to capture their personalities in subtle ways it's like turning the scout into a Sonic the Hedgehog trope or Engineer into the cowboy trope or Spy into the Bourgeois/Provincial trope. I'm not speaking on behalf of anybody but I assume that's kind of in the ballpark of what they mean.

pay attention to how simple the animations of the older taunts are (kazotsky kick, conga, schadenfreude)

@๋Foster No idea where you noticed any overly animated frames here. All moves are slow and smooth. Compare it a few animations from Cheers! or Roar O'War taunt.

I prefer this one. The motion of the hand is consistent, and the characters have more of their personal flair added afterwards.
