SDSS would suffer the same issue that the old Gaia DR2 addon had in that every star would be identical because there's nothing to classify them with. I started working on this because I'm writing a hard sci-fi series and used SpaceEngine to keep track of system locations and parameters, so I wanted things to be as accurately classified as possible, and doing SDSS would defeat that purpose.
That said, it would also make it really easy, so I could probably pull it off with only like a couple weeks of work if I felt like it.
Eh...
Technical Documentation Link Again <– Just read that if you're really curious.
I don't actually have a new galaxy catalog to add picked out yet, whenever I get around to doing one.
Well, at least I tested to confirm the actual pak itself got uploaded and was functional before I went to bed...
I'd have to look at their formatting, but my scripts could probably be modified to work with other catalogs pretty easily. I'm already planning on doing some dedicated addons for speciality objects like the old Gaia DR2 WD addon once I'm done with the main table, so maybe I can look into galaxies at the same time.
Only hard part would be that SE doesn't have bulk galaxy files as far as I know . I saw that there's an addon that adds a bunch of AI generated galaxies, so I might just have to go see how they did that one.
Ah, well, it is what it is. I imagine most people aren't nearly as interested in scientific accuracy as I am anyway.
Love your terrain mod, by the way.
I'm noticing a lot of page views but not a lot of subscriptions; is this just because everyone wants to wait for the full release, or is it the 5 million stars thing? I can reduce the size to 1M to match the main DR2 pack if needed.
I know the comments sections of SpaceEngine workshop submissions aren't exactly the most lively places, but I need feedback if it's ever gonna come out of beta, people.
Yes, but only the 1M pack.
I had previously included compatibility info in the description, but forgot to update it in the upload tool and overwrote it, then had to rewrite the whole thing from memory and I guess I forgot it the second time around.
I've updated the description with compatibility info again.
