That's because the thumbnail is a fake advertising. You need to rebuild the city on your own then take the screenshot

I'm having this issue where 6 out of 6 games then region just spawned a bunch of ruins and no free cities, like the thumbnail but nothing ever happens in the middle.

There is an issue with Seals generation on the map because the region takes so much space than nothing else fits anymore. I don't think it has a 100% crash rate though. Maybe closer to 50%, so it sometimes may generate a map and sometimes may fail. All things considered, I recommend playing it without Seals Victory enabled.

The game crashes when the Seal Victory is turned on and the map layer is loaded, but it will not crash when Massive Maps and 12 players are removed and the Seal Victory is turned on and the map layer is loaded.

you can use ctrl key and select each sector (but dont select region they are in or it could crash if you move it) and drag them as one to the single region of choice

I connect all the provinces as one region, then export them. I do not export them as separate regions.

I myself have been trying to figure out how to make my region spawn in as a large, unified chunk like this. I found that the official guide video either didn't explain how to make that happen, or I just didn't see it/understand it.

Are there any particular steps beyond the official guide video you took to ensure your region would spawn as a whole, instead of it splitting apart and scattering randomly? That seems to be whats happening to mine, as of now.

If your modded region is not appearing in game, remove and then export again the rpk file in package manager. Other than that, i just followed the official guide. If you suspect the region is too big to spawn, select a very large map during realm creation and check if it spawns.

im trying to create my own "large region" map but it is not spawning in testing, did you come across this issue while making this mod?
Was there some kind of size limit or would it not appear without player spawn locations? things like that

@White_Drag0n As someone who's dabbled very briefly into modding, my suggestion would be to open up the Realm Traits files, and try to reverse engineer traits like The Librarian or Demon Prince.

@jaofalkner92 To be honest, I would strongly prefer to make the middle part inhabited, but that demands to do significantly more complicated steps than I can't follow as for now. Therefore ruined cities are what I settled for.

@Sunbolt I'm happy people are picking it up.
I decided to recreate the unique centerpart of that map as a part of my modded regions pack, but the scope extended so much that I reimagined the whole center island and learned how to release it as a realm trait exclusive with guaranteed spawn.

Chances are I could connect a free city to it or use it as player's starting location, but my knowledge of modding is too limited / doing so is too hard so while I'm having some ideas, I will move on and focus on making new mods.

@Soft-Hands Yes, I thought I remembered that. I agree it was classic and such a great game back in the day which still holds up well, however seeing it remade for current era AoW's 4 is something I'd never have thought to see let alone play. Truly awesome.

@Sunbolt yes the United Cities was one of the early missions in the OG AoW's campaign. If you're playing as the Keepers you're tasked with saving the Halfling City States being besieged by Orcs and Goblins sent by the Cult of Storms to distract you, and as the Cult of Storms you have to besiege the pathetic Halflings with your army of Orcs and Goblins to deny the Keepers more allies. The OG campaign was great. Classic high fantasy, interconnected and branching story paths, good versus evil without being hackneyed and cliche.

Didn't know you could make maps in AoW4 since they have everything auto generated, this is awesome, it's also been a while since I've played the Original and awesome Age of Wonders classic that started it all but isn't this a reference to a mission or map in the original game? I didn't know something like this was even possible given AoW4's extreme over-reliance on procedural generation! And of all the maps to re-make, you picked one from the best instalment in the whole series!
