No this mod doesn't work for equipping items in your hands, I worked of something like that but I ended up frustrated that you cannot easely get the item right under the cursor.

I see you mention backpacks, but does this work with handheld bags? Vanilla game has a keybind to drop item in left hand, however equipping it off the floor is annoying (inventory screen + right click + equip in left hand). Would be nice to drop the left hand bag on the floor, then right click + wear in left hand if possible.

Does not seem to work with controllers for right now.
