There is a feeling of less guns, but there are more locations with guns. Same with smokes. Kitchens, Bars, etc. I'm letting this bake in and get feedback. I did change the way the loot works in hopes of adding an "intensity" value later on - one of the more requested features. Stay tuned!

Theres this conflict with the guns of 93 where m16's spawn in bedrooms which is really op considering how powerful it is that they spawn in wardrobes on a consistant basis.

Is it possible to add an option to customize the spawn chance ? I play with 12 months later settings and with the "SmokesOnly" version of your mod and I would like to find a little less items.

Well, you fixed a glaring issue in Project Zomboid, to the point where I actually consider this a fix and not a mod. Only thing is it needs more ammo. Trouble is, the way loot distribution works in this game if there's too much ammo it'll displace the other loot in containers. Like you said, some things are out of your control. One of the things developers need to do is revamp the way ammo boxes work to make the encumbrance of each make sense.

TL;DR I'm working on it.

@A Dogwork Orange @Nesano @Victim: B41 is a different animal in regards to modding and my time is better spent trying to figure out how spawning items in B42 has changed. "b41 is what SD uses, most recent stable, etc" - I get it, since it's the most recent "stable" (b41) we want it, I do. I really really do. Been playing the game for a long time. I made this mod as a gap filler for what I felt the game lacked in vanilla and to throw my hat into the ring on one of the most argued Zomboid topics to date - smokes and guns in the game.

I'm hitting character limits on the comment. so that's cool. Anyway, I'm working on it.

If anything just keep the same quantity of guns but make them more believable. There should be at least one pump shotgun and bolt action rifle in almost every house, but semi-auto rifles would be more rare. (so basically how it is now I don't know what people are complaining about)

I would love to see more variety in what guns spawn where

I haven't looked into the "too many guns" claims in awhile (not since prior to 42.10). Just took a look and I am seeing what people mean, it's either nothing at all in some locations or 3-4 guns (including M16s) in others. This is obviously not intended, nor how it was prior to 42.10. Something to keep in mind, TIS will change the spawn rates / how things spawn as the beta progresses and it will impact any mod.

I will do my best to investigate this issue and post the update for folks to download.

Would have to agree with the general consensus of users. I just tried a run with both the Gun and Smokes mods on and the Smokes seemed like an okay amount (though they were spawning in children's rooms and such which was a bit strange) but the Guns side essentially turns EVERY house into a gun store, especially if you're using any other gun mods (Guns of '93). I'd say to just stick to the Smokes side of the mod and disable the Guns side,

By "true gun guy" I think you mean "gun nut". Yes, in 1993 that was a thing, but on a far more limited basis than in 2025, where gun nuts and extremists love to cosplay as soldiers.

In 1993 the NRA hadn't gone completely insane with it's anti-government stance and was still largely about gun safety; gun ownership was still largely about home protection and hunting, not militant cosplay. In '93, most gun ownership would be hunting rifles/shotguns and pistols/revolvers.

Guess what I'm saying is don't conflate 2025 Appalachia with 1993 Appalachia - same place, but a way different time. :)

The problem with the mod is that there's more guns than there should be and not half the ammo there should be. A true gun guy is gonna have at least a thousand rounds in his house.

The spawn rate is insane. I'm from the south and I started a 1 year later run, there's a shotgun or pistol in EVERY dresser and nightstand, some form of tobacco in EVERY container, even childrens dressers lol and this is with rare to very rare loot settings 1 year after. There's a lot of guns and tobacky down here, but like HALF of what the mod suggests lol.

So far all I've got on this mod is
1. There should be CCWs spawning on zombies from when they were alive and fighting.
2. There's not enough ammo in houses. If you loot the house of a serious gun owner you'll find over a thousand rounds of ammo per caliber in use.

Definitely needs a slider if creator has the time. I appreciate the mod as is. However, as a previous comment had said, the amount of guns although fun at first is really OP. Normally a city where I would just outright avoid or sneak around I could just wipe.

Still a very good mod for those of you who want to experience that YN crashout type vibe but for those who just want maybe a few extra weapons lying around this mod may be too much. To keep it manageable I just leave most of the weapons behind without looting ammo to keep in somewhat reasonable.

Then again...can there really be too much gun in a zombie apocalypse?

@SmileyBruv Also people usually try to take their guns in times of crisis. I can see leaving something behind for time or whatever but nobody who owns a gun is gonna leave it behind.

I reccomend just barely increasing building spawns, a little more to guns on zombies and then even more in cars. THAT would make sense.

Lastly cigs are perfect and should be vanilla

A good lore accurate mod, however while the smokes seem totally reasonable as most neighborhoods have a decent handful of smokers. The gun spawns are wildly too high making the game EZ mode. I have come across dozens of houses with multiple types of pistols assault rifles and shotguns under a single roof with a hundred rounds for each. If we could change the frequency of the spawns to our liking I think this mod would be a lot better.

As it sits a single street in any neighborhood can equate to way more loot than any vanilla police station or military checkpoint in the game making the game far too easy.
