I don't know if this is really necessary. In my current colony, an older colonist happened to enter into a relationship with a younger one. Even so, I will use the mod as a precaution (since they ended the relationship very early on).

@Nowhere This mod shouldn't cause any issues with other mods. I don't know if Way Better Romance has this feature.

Do you know if this is compatible/redundant with Way Better Romance? I know that mod incorporates Ladies Can Flirt Too and this resolves a similar annoyance with vanilla romance.

Uh yeah there are a lot of unfortunate choices in the romance system to say the least. Very happy there are mods like this one to clean them up.

Hi, does this mod address the apparent imbalance in romance attempts from female or bisexual pawns? I've been using Ladies Can Flirt Too to fix it (and the age issue) but it hasn't been updated in quite a while and I'm looking for something else that will do the job.

It has a lot to do with money, although other cultural factors, especially polygamy, will skew it. It's almost a crisis in polygamous cultures, because older men tend to have all the money while younger men are still trying to finish education or are only in starting jobs or just plain haven't inherited daddy's fortune yet. As a book on the subject I read put it, "Throughout most of history, it was better for a woman to be lonely and ignored as a fourth wife of a rich old man than to watch her child starve to death as the only wife of a poor young man." The result is a bunch of horny young men and no available women except prostitutes, and prostitution is more common in such cultures. Things are rather different in cultures where women can work, although they also tend to marry later, so the single young men to women ratio is more even, even if marriage rates at that age aren't high.

@Nekosempei It's supposedly a modern American statistic, but all the actual studies I could find in my five minutes of googling seemed to say that both men and women preferred dating younger with no external factors (money). I'm sure money plays a big part in the stigma though lol

@nobleXenon I'm not sure what you're looking at but this mod changes the code in Pawn_RelationsTracker.LovinAgeFactor, which despite its name is also used to determine romance chance in addition to lovin' chance.

I'm looking at the wiki, and while it's not perfect, it still doesn't mention the age disparity. Is there a reason there's an age. At most it's attached to lovin' from what I can see, but it seems to punish the male being older.

Women do generally go after older man. Which is why there's a lot more single 20 year old men then 20 year old women. But this mod is preferable to reality anyways so whatever.

Would be complete if it was a trait, so certain pawns would not mind the age while others would.

Tynan made a lot of weird (or maybe religiously-driven?) assumptions about romance in the game, but this one is at least based on fact - for normal humans. Human females tend to undergo puberty 3-5 years earlier than males, which sets up a social pattern where the girls are looking for interested MOTAS while the boys are still not interested.

That said, these days it's just one more way in which the game bakes in assumptions about develoopment patterns and applies them to non-humans. Also, less fun. So this is a good idea in a mod.

And *that* said, I'm pretty sure that one of the several more general romance fix mods includes this feature, but it's not the one I've ended up using this year.
