Hmm,adding a melee with pretty much the same code as a throw except its just a melee,sounds like nothing overpowered, and nothing bad will happen-

I am sorry everyone I am no longer active in the rain world scene, when I made this mod I was under the impression that rain world was no longer receiving updates and thus would be easier to maintain / expand upon. I am stretched fairly thin on maintaining other projects for the immediate present. As stated already everyone has my full permission to use any and all code in their own projects. If anyone with the know-how would like to take custody of this mod send me a friend request / message and I'll add you to the author section and can explain code if needed.

If u do it next to a wall it creates an invisible climb point like a real spear is stuck in the wall but other than that great mod

maybe make it so that if u stab something with melee as arti or spearmaster the spear stays in place
while gourb monk and riv having too flimsy hands to do that so they just toss it or even just well...
(gourmand will get fling to the position when u use melee as gourb not too far but a bit far)

really like the mod!!!!! only thing i wish was there was maybe a remix option so spears don't lodge in creatures when you stab them, and maybe an option to lower stab damage so its not too overpowered

lol how the hell do you enable the mod, its just show 1 and too much of zeros colored red, like i think its a version or something but i can't enable it

@cameron.alfieri thanks for the heads up. I am aware of the issue behind this, basically certain spears are 'cursed' and will not function with the mod. Replacing said spear with another will allow it to function again.

I finish finals on the 23rd, I plan to fix remaining issues and add a rebinding options menu at some point after that.

I make no promises on a fixed-by-date. As mentioned elsewhere on my workshop I have serious chronic health issues. Should I have a symptom flare around the time mentioned above it may delay the patch by a month or two.

good mod but everytime i use the controls for melee it just throws it instead of actually doing a melee attack. i dont know if thats just because the melee is throwing a spear then picking it back up again or smt else

well on computer i can spam jump and use the melee attack when am midair to gain a good boost this makes it easier to escape fast creatures (works on pole jumps too!)
wow i dont need a pounce anymore!

@poglovewoof Sorry I don't have a controller to test it on. I assigned the button to Joystickbutton3, joystickbutton1 is jump and joystickbutton2 is throw I believe. Once classes calm down I will add custom bindings to the remix options. If you figure out what button it correlates to let me know and I can post it on the page.

I have a simple bug report, not sure if this was caught before, but sliding and meleeing throws the spear and causes that constant spinning bug, where it can no longer be used in melee, this only happens when doing a slide throw, when a spear gets boosted and has a little *tink* on the ground as it flies

Pretty nice, the throwboosting can be a little unbalanced for movement tech. One of my favorite mods.

After some further testing, I've found out that in arena mode, spears spawned naturally will not place an invisible pinned spear, but will be thrown on the next melee press, and will constantly be spinning, but any newer spears spawned by beastmaster or dev console will spawn an invisible pinned spear, and will not spin wildly when thrown

While trying it out in arena mode, it seems that most of the time, meleeing a wall with a spear will cause it to bug out, causing the next melee/spear throw to result in it being thrown and it constantly spinning

Joystick1Button3 for me is Y (i rebound it as it was my ptm key)
And also, I've found an issue with meleeing a wall
Meleeing a wall can cause an invsible pinned spear to be placed there, that doesn't remove the original spear. It cannot be pulled out, and will stay there, remaining climbable.

Apologies I have no clue what it corresponds to. I do not have a controller to test it but a modder friend told me most controllers should support that button.

Add an option which when enabled makes the swinged spear deflect/reflect other projectiles cuz that would be funny

Also on the "game balance" thing, this seems decently fair considering its logical that you can melee attack with a spear, i always wondered why you can't in the base-game. Perhaps you could also add this functionality to the rocks, cinder-blocks, and bricks? would be hilarious to smack a blue lizard with a rock in a pinch.

@Gravenwitch One interesting idea you could implement is gourmand dealing increased damage with melee attacks. If you have the time of course, don't want you getting burned out.

I've long waited for a 1.9 mod that makes spears into melee weapons. Doesn't do much outside changing up the typical combat (and letting you throw-boost without losing a spear; I binded both spear-attack buttons to X and can double-tap throw with a spear in my offhand for that effect).

It's neat that having two buttons means you can stab something without switching your rock out of your dominant hand, but I am interested in how the game differs if spears' long range is removed entirely. Letting melee attacks pin spears to walls, and making the melee button compatible with backflip throws would help. Same goes with a Remix option to disable sticking spears in creatures (for horizontal melee).

Last, since you intend for melee attacks to have more endlag, pummeling something with a rock or another spear would be funny, since Spearmaster would no longer have the strength of spawning needles for long-range combat. That said, I'm excited that you're fleshing this mod out.

Rain Meadow has been tested. It works decently, but you can accidentally kill yourself with the spears which is really funny.

@Mist no clue, let me know and Ill see what I can do / add interactions to the compatibility page. This mod shouldn't cause issues with any single player stuff but I have no ideas about coop. I hooked onto the base spear object and the player.
