I think there are a real prototype version of the Springfield that's semi auto and mag fed from the side of the gun.

I had a strange idea for a modified DOD/Half-Life Universe hybrid gun.

A Springfield that has been rather hastily converted into a semi-auto rifle using combine technology to automatically rack the bolt, resulting in a VASTLY improved fire rate, but worse sustained accuracy, leading it to be a bit less consistent on repeat shots.

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!

I was also imagining that this modified Springfield would also have an Autoloader much like the Half-Life: Alyx Shot-Pistol, leading to a MASSIVELY improved short-term reload that has to be prepped again if you want to use it again
