The Emily Thistle set sail on October 15, 1902. During that voyage, the crew started getting worried about the drums of whale oil inside the ship, which were leaking. While this was going on, a storm started, causing the ship's Masts and bridge to be damaged. The next day came, and the crew were too afraid to even light the firebox, in fear of lighting the fumes. They eventually were too paranoid to stay in their own bunks below deck. On October 31, 1902, The crew had had enough, and decided to get in their small raft. However, they had lost the supplies to break the deck so the lifeboat could be put in the water, and had to jump overboard. They were never seen again.

The vessel was carrying alcohol, flamable fumes leaked out of the barrels after the storm expanding the cargo hold making the wood planks creak. The crew got scared the pressure might be too much and the hull might rupture so they abandoned ship and got lost to the sea

why not put this anywhere at ocean as a mission?

After the vessel was anbandoned and before the vessel was found again, she was hit by a fierce storm wich caused the damage on her decks.

My theory: Some sort of strong fluid that can damage wood, similar to acid, managed to get on board and start spilling toxic fumes and damaging the wooden floor, causing the creaking sounds, and spooking those on board.
