I downloaded RPFM to tweak the values. These values work great to make the player's units nigh unkillable, while only giving them a slight edge in combat so that the battles develop realistically (enemy don't die too quickly)

Melee defense +50 is helpful, but I die most to slingers and archers. A tier 1 archer can kill a heavily armored and shielded generals bodyguard from the front in this game. What stats can be buffed to give missle defense? Doesn't lethality just bypass defense anyway?
