@Grim no, it was a unnecessary war, both argentina and england used the war to cover up the things that they were doing and boost their popularity with their own people. And also, the conflict almost got a pacific solution, but the dictatorship of Argentina between 1976 to 1983 decided to throw all the negotiations that we were having with england.
There are a lot of good books that talk about this theme in particular, but "no picnic" by Julian Thompson its quite good to learn what the brittian encountered, and "The malvinas /falklands between history and law" explains in detail why the argetinians hold a strong relationship with the island.
