I never play PZ without shoes, so idk how bad it is, but irl feet are actually pretty prone to cuts, punctures, and tears if you usually always wear socks and shoes. Your feet wont toughen and callus up like they do if you primarily go barefoot. Carefully stepping would make it a lot less likely that you would damage your feet, but if you're running or fighting you're a lot more likely to step hard or stop, and that's how you end up with tore up feet. I also feel stomping a zombie to death with bare feet should be automatic infection. Your feet WOULD get tore up stomping a skull.

Maybe being a zombie is just the better option, at least the zeds can shamble around without suffering a horrid laceration every 10 steps.
