A bag of sand or salt would make some thematical sense, right?

I like this, but I do think it should be empty/never advantageous. starting with a bag full of gold really disrupts the balance (though some chaos is fun)

Is there a setting where the pouch starts out empty?
If not, could you do one?

I seem to be getting a new pouch every time I open the run, even if it's an existing run where I already had the pouch. This leads to unlimited pouches instead of the intended singular one. Please fix, thank thank
