I am a software dev, so i figured id give some input. I think the gray color is really just the background of the character screen, so the character is still there but its just offset when used in other areas (make up for example). Im not familiar with the modding tools in zomboid but the solution is probably to either:
a) Make your mod also encompass other areas that are using the avatar (so make up screen for example)
b) Add a function that allows you to enlarge/minimize the model back to its original size.
Lastly, when I disabled the mod, the issue still persisted, after verifying integrity of game files there was 1 file that was corrupted so thats another thing that might help you out :)

Also you could mention that works with label size mod (the other mod alterate the screen doesnt)
i think that's to do with some of the apparel not having models for one of the sexes, not this mod.
