I recommend using piercing weapons like the devastator and cannon since the enemies seem to patrol certain areas of the slums in constant large groups. Clear one area and then start camping from there with devastator.

That section in the slums was absolutely nuts, ain't no way you can do that without god mode! And there were almost zero health pickups in the final stretch! All I was getting was armor and it made the fight practically impossible considering the odds you are facing even on easy settings!
