Did give this a try when doing a solo with rev.
I feel the ships are a bit too aggressive but the aircraft being more aggressive is nice if only islands could respawn their aircraft.
Yes, the problem is still relevant. The ships from the distant islands disappeared when they came close to my carrier.
It wakes up the island defense AI and tells them to go actually -do- something at a much larger radius instead of sitting waiting for the player to poke them from a safe distance. I think it only works on ships and planes, but those are still a lot better than having the island defenses just sit waiting to be attacked.
Doesn't seem particularly balanced for solo play, but it was fun basically realizing that the entire map was actively hostile if I was anywhere NEAR them.
