And yes units don't auto attack, again something the classic game has always been like, especially the commando, you must be careful when using them.
As far as Balance goes, the GDI campaign is designed to be easy compared to the NOD campaign which is a lot more difficult, seeing as how GDI won the war. With the NOD missions you need a lot of out the box thinking.
Full scale ground war against GDI in this campaign almost never is the idea, NOD are a guerilla faction, and if you do have to face GDI head on in battle you will notice you get some kind of aid in that mission to do so.
