It's also good for niche mod setups. If you use this and increase the amount of limb damage it takes to sever the arm, it pretty much ensures gibbing = killing

M60 wasnt in the game Day 1

There is an exception to them dying that always bothered me. It's the M60 with incendiary ammo. Tends to blow off their legs or basically mutilate them beyond belief but they still wind up having the burning animations play. Not really sure why they rushed this game out so fast. It took them a year to release it after the first L4D and there's so much stuff that could have been better.
