the mod is two lines of code, so I think we both did the same job.

the reasons to make it a mod is because that makes it much easier to manage whether or not you want that to be enabled in your version of the game
you don't need to remember it across version updates, reinstalls, etc.
just install the mod and continue on with your life
this is useful for people that might use lots of little fixes like this and can't be bothered to remember what they changed and didn't change all the time
it's also useful for people who like Rimworld, but maybe aren't as tech-savy as you and I
