A little aperture goes a long way it seems

So, all it did was add the bone. No matter what I try, nothing happens. I've followed the instructions and read them several times over, so why isn't it working?

@famix oh that's interesting to hear! It does give a hint towards fixing the script. If we look at the pastebin in the description, on lines 46 and 47 we can see the code that ensures that moving the "bone" does trigger updates to the focal distance.
This means that maybe adding an extra similar lines to connect to the camera's own position could be the desired fix!
It's been a while since I've last touched SFM, so this may be more suitable for somebody other than me ^^'

It won't work properly for a moving camera. It will only keep focus for one frame and the rest bugs out

moving the cmera doesnt refresh anything. i tried it 10 times and the image remains a blurry mess.

This is a cool script but it is in dire need of a update to fix the bugs. This script would certainly help a lot into making precise depth during video production, but at its current state it's utility to video development is 0, but for posters on the other hand, it sure is helpful.

For those of you having some issues with it... mine kept getting blurry until I moved the focal plane bone into the actual camera view (not the actual camera itself oddly enough). It all depends on the map it seems. Make sure the Focal Plane Bone is IN THE SHOT. At least, this is what helped me. It may not help you. Once you get the desired effect all it comes down to is playing with the Aperture. :) Hopefully this helps someone. Cheers! :D

Yes, the problem with the script is it requires you move the camera to update/refresh the calculations. If you don't, they're messed up and the image becomes blurry.

This script is actually still too buggy to deserve a tutorial. For poster making it's still useful, but when dealing with movies (where the camera's status channel evolve through time), the focal distance doesn't update unless you manually "attempt to move the camera", which renders this script pretty much useless.
I don't know if it's a limit in the complementary python scripting or that I'm just bad, but I still haven't been able to figure out a solution or workaround :/
Citra 2015
Been months since you said you'd make a tutorial. Where is it?
The Miserer 2015
Still waiting on that tutorial. Script looks very interesting, though I too think it's bugged (picture always gets blurry, despite efforts).

I think this is broken. It just blurs the hell out everything and I have no clue how to adjust the rig script.

You should release a tutorial. I really want to see how it`s supposed to be used and such.

Many thanks :D
Señor Maracuyá  [
ok, as there seems to be some trouble with using this script, I'll be releasing a tutorial in a few days ...
Why is my image still blurry? I want my old controls back! What do you mean that model is "not a camera"?

HALP ME!
u know i find the script confusing. everytime i execute the script, i cant manipulate the focal plane bone, could u maybe make a video tutorial of using it?
Basically adds a bokeh effect to everything you apply to your SFM posters.

Thx ! :D
Btw, I contacted the SFM Team for documentation about the functions we may use as Expressions, and they immediately added this article to the official Wiki : https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SFM/Expression_Operator
