upscale the lines and dots to make it less busy, add some lighter textures as to not have a pure brown/wooden gun and I think it'd look nice. Light gold or brass could help out in breaking it apart.

Veryy nice, but i do think you could upscale the lines a bit more. Since the way it is, it looks waaaay too busy.

Perhaps making the custom wear be a darker brown would make it better. I would also add a secondary/tertiary texture to break up the lines.

Ooooooon this as a sniper rifle with the custom texturing thing would be sick

I semi like the main texture, however this warpaint needs something to break up the monotony of the colour pallet.I would suggest making one of the secondary colours are darker black accent colour, also needs a team variant as this would look awful on blue team.

Could use some lighter texture in there. Also a blu variant, if not that then just shift the colors to be more neutral.
