That actually WAS originally going to be what triggered the horde during an earlier build of L4D1, I think the campaign "No Mercy Redux" reintroduces that mechanic into the map where the gas station explodes after you exit the window to access the rooftop you would with the lift.
True. Like, we all know loud noises attract zombies so it was weird when that plane crash didn't summon a horde.
