The Everett Massacre, Bloody Sunday, November 5, 1916. Striking shingle mill workers and IWW supporters had twice been attacked and chased from town by the police and vigilantes. Undeterred, a group of 260 chartered the steamers Verona and Calista from Seattle. As the Verona approached the dock they were met by Sheriff McRae and a hastily deputized goon squad of armed vigilantes, once the gang plank was lowered a 10 minute shooting ensued. By the end 7 lay dead, 5 Wobblies and 2 business-owning vigilantes with 47 wounded on either side. No charges were pressed, the jury found that the deputized vigilantes were struck by their own projectiles in the officer involved incident. The police investigated themselves and found no wrong doing.
