if you mean for testing, unfortunately it will require editing the mod's xml to guarantee you get a brain that can interfere with radio. otherwise it's random.
if you mean for general gameplay, if the thalamus has it you'll hear faint static as you approach, with a headset affliction as you get closer.

it's random which "features" the thalamus can get, so yeah unless you edit the mod it'll take a while before you might encounter one. the chance for radio interference begins at difficulties of about 37 and higher, increasing at 50.

It seems that it's caused by the headset jamming feature of radio interference, but from my testing it sometimes happens, sometimes doesn't.
I know which line causes it, but I'm not sure at the moment how to fix it.

I'd recommend disabling this mod in the meantime.

does this mod still work? Because i had errors "Received msg, entity not found" and "received an update for an entity that doesn't exist;" when I hit the thalamus brain in mission mode

Increasing the brain's health would only make clearing out thalamus wrecks more tedious and less fun, so I'm debating keeping it disabled.
There's only so much you can do to make wrecks more interesting, and making the brain an ammo/time sink shouldn't be one of them.

It seems the culprit lied in randomising the thalamus brains' health.

Unfortunately I do not have time at the moment to fix it, so this update only disables the part that causes the issue. It should no longer cause clients to return to the lobby.

I was able to host a test server which then closes with "received an update for an entity that doesn't exist;" is this what happens?

I believe this causes entity desync errors (even if you're the host). Someone in the Barotrauma discord seemed to have the same issue, and it was apparently something to do with the thamalus brain failing to spawn. Removing the mod fixed a lot of my problems.

Wrecks have a 50% chance to have data recorders as loot, while thalamus wrecks have about 6% to 40% chance to have defensive features (also picked randomly). This is to allow variety.

@Merc Hello, I just pushed an update that, among other things, 1) fixes the incorrect isSold attribute, and 2) hopefully replaces the thalamus alarm with a regular emergency siren if it still somehow makes its way into an inventory.
I have done some basic testing in the level editor and found that my changes don't break anything else, but please let me know if you encounter any new issues.

Hello! i've ran into a problem - "derelicts.thalamusalarm" is being sold on some stations.
one of my crewmates bought one and ended up with a locked inventory slot and a fleshy unremovable bit in cargo bay.

Consider using the sold="false" tag instead of the isSold="false"

@V_p0t0kE_f1m8Zz4 I believe both mods do not override the same items, and I wrote most features with other mods in mind, so I believe they should be compatible. If it is not, please feel free to report it in the feedback and issues discussion.

Do take note that this mod is undergoing a somewhat extensive revision, but it should not affect compatibility.
