Time for history skills. Vietnam was Split at the time, Communist and Free state. Richard Nixon was scared it could cause the domino effect. Cambodia? Laos? Thailand? Myanmar? @pieanear I just copied a description from the web. I won't get into a debate here, but while you could argue the U.S. didn't "lose", they most certainly didn't win as the country is still socialist to this day. You could call it a failed occupation rather than a lost war, and that would be definitionally correct.
