btw, some of my mods still work despite the update, which is interesting.
I'm not sure if I'll add overclocking and heat to Engineering Bay for example, as I can incur it has it's own radiator under the floor. Same for PD turrets, Heavy PD Turret is good enough without overclocking, so why fix it :)

I was thinking about making github and keeping versions alive, but I'm not sure if it makes sense for this game.

One way or the other development marches forward and I think future versions of the game will be much better in scope.

I don't know, honestly. For now it would be best to copy mods from steam to Standard Mods folder under Cosmoteer, rename folders with version number and keep them there :)

May wanna start a topic in workshop subforum and list these mods. There is a good chance other modders are using these and they will fix them locally so maybe they can upload fixed versions to workshop.

Could you add legacy versions of your mods? I'm rolled back to .29 because a good portion of the mods I use broke and have little to no chance of being updated.

If you're still having issues with overclocking, I have a version of this mod that I got working and with normals matching the turret. Feel free to take whatever you need from it, it was originally your work anyways, I just wanted multiple colors.

Thanks. Try now, I've just updated the shot rules file.

Seems like every now and then Walt's team moves tags around, crash was created because it seems like buff from electron clouds was no longer valid for certain sub-sub-sub entry in the file...

Should be fine now :)

Picked up the game again after a long hiatus.
The mod Crashed the game during restart.

No, beams chain upon colliding with an object.
Vanilla prism is 'below' layer where turret beam operates - it has to be above the rest of the ship, otherwise it would not be a turret :)

Yeah, we get that, fam, but this may be one of the most powerful turret-mods in the game. I think it would be much more interesting if using it came with risk. Preferably, a lot of risk, considering how the only things that hit harder are mining beams at point blank range. Trust us, fam. It would be much more interesting. 🙂

So normal Prism can chain to other normal Prisma and Mounted Prism, while Mounted Prism can only chain to other Mounted Prism, right?

Should be fine now. I had to make turret "Tall" for the beam to actually hit it, so it should work. But it will block turrets behind prisms, so position them carefully.

I'm doing something wrong or this prism can't use the chain feature to target other prisms. I tried but it always shoots the beam over the other prism, even if I specifically targeted the beam.

1) Not possible game wise, code always gets 100% from first emitter. I could maybe lower damage per beam, but that would decouple it from vanilla values. Maybe 10% reduction in damage would be enough, need to look into formula to keep links to vanilla
2) That would defeat purpose of the turret :D But then, maybe it could rotate a little bit slower (after all it is double the amount of diamonds that need rotating).

Each time you combine Ion Beams they become weaker. 8 beams combined are equivalent to 5.35 separated beams. Also, they require at some point line of sight which creates a weak spot.
Your turrent is deck mounted and so it has no weak spot. Also, it allows you to rotate it so you actually require no combining and so no damage waste.
I suggest one of two options:
1) Make this turrent instead of taking 100% of the first beam, 75% of the second beam, 56% of the third beam and so on, it should instead be 75% of the first beam, 56% of the second beam 42% of the fourth beam and so on. This would kind of compensate it. 8 separated turrent would be equivalent to 6, which is just a bit higher than combining 8 ion beams (in binomial shape).
2) Make this turrent unable to aim. Similar to a railgun or a normal ion beam, you won't be able to aim it, but at least it will be on the roof which is very nice. It removes the flexibility of aiming but gives flexibility in positioning and defense.

Ho ahead and use it :) Making graphics for Cosmoteer is my creative outlet and I would be rather sad if no one cared, after all this effort :)

For the beam color, check ion_beam.shader file. Shaders are a bit more complex than just .rules tints, but most of beam effect should be there.

Heya Sir Evans. Would you mind if I use your prism turret graphic? I am working on the fighter components mod and a fighter based version of a turreted ion beam. It wont combine like yours and is designed as a fast moving turret. I have modified it to add a more metallic look so its different but I really love the flavor of yours.
Also, I cant seem to make the beam RED... its a thin slightly reddish white beam no matter what I set the Vertex Colors to. Is there any way to make the beam pulse? Thanks!!

i have a idea based on others foughts

a ion prism normal one not roof mounted so it can be hit easyer
incease the damage of any ions beam's by 5x to 20x

you can only place on per ship

but once it is destoyed it will expode with as much explosive power as you can put into it.
(with in reason)


it will cost 10 unranim 20 hyper coils 5 diamonds 2 processers 10 (strongst armor plate stuff) idk how to spell it at all.

it's just a idea so you can tweak it if you need to.
