UPDATE: I've learned how to make LCDs properly - and also how to fix this without updating (that come too, if I ever have infinite time)
To fix the dark LCD images, edit text and add a space in it. The text activates transparency (sprite) layer over the image and makes the backlight appear normally, and the images will become bright as daylight.

@Acirno - the touch screen mod is functional, this is only decorative. I guess the creator of that mod can use similar images to make a functional touchscreen interface, but it would be quite an undertaking. Designing a functional interface is a much harder job. :-)

I wonder if these could be outfitted with the Touch Screen app for SE, some of these would be great for an interactive screen.
