Paint.net is what I use, just with a whole lot of addons. Not for any good reason, only because I haven't pirated Photoshop. But that's pretty much it step by step. Enjoy!

Yeah I actually already found out, just had to decompile the .vpk, then edit and export the helmet_col.vtf as .tga, cut and paste the lenses, then change the HSV via paint.net

Crowbar, and VTFEdit. You can find both around the modding scene, or their official Steam groups for Crowbar anbd VTFEdit. Crowbar allows you to download and extract the mod's files, VTFEdit allows you to open the image files, extract them as PNGs or TGAs, edit them in Photoshop or GIMP, and then reimport them back in.

Its basically just export, edit, import. Crowbar even has a tab for publishing mods. Super handy. Love it.

Total Godsend, even though it just 1k, it look amazing!! Not sure why you need another 3k for a 15 y/o game.

The body is 2k now, but I didn't upscale the bags or the vest. Believe me, it just looks like that.

So I did it tonight. Just now.

This version and the Green visor version are now slightly better, with an upscaled body, and boomer bile overlay on. I didn't test it, as its 10pm, but it shouldn't have any issues. If there are, lmk please. If anyone specifically requests the Deep Black version done, I will, but the original guy who did these probably had a reason why.

I could, but if I did, I'd feel wrong to not do it for all 4 packs, which wouldn't be *hard,* but it'd be a slow going pain. I have to fix my other mod's viewmodel at some point, so maybe I'll dedicate and afternoon to doing both some time.

Can you make a medium-quality 2k version? The original materials were about 164mb, maybe you can reduce it to around 50 - 60? I'm not familiar with making mods for left 4 dead 2 but would love to play as Hunk that doesn't look so low-res. Would love a boomer bile texture too. Thanks!

Has now been updated: All versions have blood decals re-enabled on the body textures, although these aren't set up to accept Boomer bile. Maybe smth to do in the future, if people want it.
