For the most part it seems you can still play with this mod without many issues, AI still works well. BUT the Caver's do cause a lot of error messages to appear :ashamedensher:

I love this mod so much. The ice sharks are horrible creatures of hell, awful to deal with, but very memorable. Can't play the game without! :praisesun:

Wow! Who would of thought my first encounter with this mod was 10 mins into my play through and a 2 ice sharks got into my ship glitching around killing everyone I had within seconds. Crazy how little modding goes on in this game that this poorly made mod is on the front page in the workshop. Took me one single encounter to realize something is wrong and yet its not fixed

Yeah spent 3 weeks trying to make 3 creature mods humanoid and arachnid style and gave up making creatures is so hard in this game even the new guide they released is the same as the last one.

I couldn't figure it out by looking at the code, but Cavers and Harpoon Whales are throwing a ton of warnings for "potentially invalid damage modifier". Any chance you can look at this? It's not causing crashes, but it sure is clogging up the console every time one of these enemies spawns.

Very interesting read

The main issue we face for visuals is making sprites with good textures. Too much photoshop editing and the textures blur the more you manipulate them

To get side profiles i used words like "side view" and "reference sheet" in my prompt. But if you use "reference sheet" in your prompt you should also add "solo", "single focus" or something like that. Otherwise it will generate not one but a whole bunch of small creatures.

I also recommend ControlNet plugin with "Canny" option to get some variations of a image you like. And you can always use a couple of images to make some kind of frankenstein out of them, taking parts you like and stitching them together in Photoshop.

Wow, thank you so much for your honesty and humility. I appreciate this information a lot! This is all very incredible and I agree now that this is a amazing idea and am also astounded that no one else has decided to make use of this either!

Perhaps one of the biggest obstacles is again learning the character editor and coding xD

While I am working hard on creating my own game mode right now I do think I might eventually circle back to this and make my own creatures.

Was there any secret to getting the perfect or near perfect side profiles or did you simply have to generate new images until you got a good one?

Thank you so much again for all of this and I really appreciate it and I am sure many other people on the consumer end will too.

I still wonder why no one did this before me. There are so many talented and experienced moders in this community who would make such a mod a hundred times better than me with such an inexhaustible source of raw sprite material

I didn't draw any of these sprites. The neural network deserves all the praise about their quality, not me. The only thing I did was process them in Photoshop. I fixed some generation jambs, cut sprites into pieces for the editor and did color correction, that's it.
In fact, all I had to do was "breathe life" into these sprites and make creatures out of them (and even that I couldn't do right).

I used the Deliberate V2 model and just generated images until it produced something interesting.

Okay, it's time to tell you the whole story of how I came to this in the first place.

As soon as this whole topic with neural networks began to rapidly gain popularity, I learned about Stable Diffusion and immediately wanted to try it out. At first, I generated all sorts of random pictures, but then after a long time I came up with the idea to try to generate some pictures of a sea monsters.

At first, nothing good came out, everything was boring and it was clearly visible that it was "just a fish with some strange details". But then the neural network gave me a picture of Mud Dragon, as I call it now.

I thought, "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥! I CAN'T JUST LET THIS GO TO WASTE!"
And that's how the development of this mod began.

I've been following this mod's work every now and then for a very long while now. I just read about the frustrations regarding character editor and I can empathize.

@valveworshipper If you would read the mod descriptions, the creature pack tells you it has merged MN and creatures of the depth into it and no longer need to download them separate.

You know, guys

I suddenly realized for myself that despite all the problems of the creature editor and all difficulties, I still want to continue working.

I won't make any promises, everything is going very slowly and there are much more important things to do right now (and I'm still waiting for the developers to finally make a normal editor :GDInsane:), but still I haven't completely given up development. I repeat, it's going VERY slow, but it's not completely stopped.

This mod has now been integrated into Barotraumatic. Can't say I'm happy about the news though, because now in order to re-experience MN Creatures mod, you have to download a bloated buggy mess of a mod that jacks up the enemy spawn rates up to 11.

ay i know you might not be looking for any sort of moral support but i just wanted to say that i get exactly where you are coming from

its difficult creating mods for this game, not only with how limited xml is but also the thanklessness that comes with modding in general, especially in a game whose updates regularly break what you have created

so dw about about it, seriously. it will always be here if you choose to return anyways

Both this AND Creatures of the Deep are being discontinued on the very same month. At this point there really aren't any expansive creature mods left on the workshop that maintain development, besides Barotraumatic and its dependencies.

Before discontinuing, you should at least consider fixing the creature inventory capacity error. It's a very common and obtrusive error, and makes up the majority of error messages that come from this mod. It's a super easy fix. I did it myself in a few minutes. I could send the edited xml to you if you want.
