it definitely looks more like wood than rock

I like the concept and the colours. However, I think that the layers of sediments (the lines) are too thin. I think you should thicken up and reduce the number of lines to be more like the in-game textures we have for rock materials. At the moment the rock texture looks like a wood material.

reminds me of the one pistol warpaint. plus as beautiful as canyon rocks are. don't want any more wall/cloth/terrain textures on guns anymore.
