I know you stated you would provide a guide for adding your own assets when you can, but do you have any recommendations for tying mods to existing assets? I use charmweavers a lot and I noticed that while they have not been done, many like mods have been. I'd love tie horns or wings to existing assets if possible, just unsure how

@twopennydoodle it seems that using any of the of the VRE lycanthrope genes causes their portraits to add chest fur to their portrait, specifically i know for sure the lycanthrope dark vision gene causes chest fur. what trying to make a demon race but they all get rendered with chest fur lol

Hey everyone! Pushed a small update for this week - added in Nereid Fins genes and then updated Roo's Satyrs, Fauns, and Minotaurs to the branched versions by Tuco and Verdeth!

Sadly no. The only way is to get lucky with random. Same with the hair if it gives you a really bad one for a missing hair asset.

Is there a way I can select a specific expression/face? Sometimes, I like the expression linked to a trait, but I don't necessarily want to have that trait on my character.

A way to customize portraits would be nice too (if possible), like selecting the facial features/hair separately and saving it so it's linked to the specific pawn.

@Sirix^ Ah, that's a really tricky one. I can look into this, but it might be unfortunately a non-starter for how PotR works (it's really dicey with mods that edit other mods because of programming stuff)

@KaelynZ It does, but unfortunately there's a known bug with Gradient Hairs since...I think 1.5? that basically throws an error for all pawns on the map if a pawn shows up that is bald. PotR just basically throws its own error log to say it can't render the portrait, either. There's a patch mod that's floating around that fixes the bald hair error for Gradient Hairs, though. If you search "bald patch gradient hairs" you should be able to find it. If the error is still going on after that, though, please let me know!

@yahryak and @Darlock Selenium we've got quite the backlog, but hopefully one day!

@Starempire42 Yeah, this is what I was afraid of with Roo's branches. I'm not quite sure what to do here as technically the older ones still do work with 1.6, and I think there are several unofficial branches that are out in the wild. I'll have to sit and think how to best tackle this without having a million different branches that may become defunct on the PotR end. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, though!

@Phat Joe I'll work on getting the new branches of Roo's Fauns and whatnot out next weekend! I've got it implemented on my end, but I just get nervous sending it out into the world without testing, so I'm going to be doing that this weekend

@Goblins4Lyfe Thank you for the kind words! I've got quite the backlog, so it may be a bit of time before I can tackle such a thing, but hopefully one day!

@Atrabilis I've had several people ask for this over the years - I'm actually not sure how that would work entirely, so I'd just need to look into it! I think it's more of a code thing than art thing, so it might just be a thing down the line!

I would say I am so unequivocally not the voice of programming on my end, so I will actually send this to BunBunBunnies to see what he says. Unfortunately, he is supper tapped this month as we work on our game's vertical slice, so it maaaay be a bit before he can really dig into something like this, but I'll definitely let him know. @Pimp Internationalu' We've talked about this in the past! I'm not quite sure what the code reality is of doing that, but really the reason we just haven't is because I'm not sure it will translate the detail and may look kind of blurry in a smaller size. It's a good suggestion, though! I'll definitely keep it on the docket of things to look into

Hello, everyone! Things have been crazy on my side as my seasonal day job winds down and my studio preps for a vertical slice of the game I've been working on for the past year and change (spooky). That being said, this isn't abandoned or anything. Just been quiet! I'm hoping to get a bit of work done on it this weekend to have an update for next Friday. On the docket is setting up the 1.6 branches of Roo's Satyrs, Fauns, and Minotaurs (which is a definite) and then maaaaaybe I'll have Erin's FFXIV races done? That one is a bit more work, so TBD. Regardless, there will be an update! Also, I've noticed some missing textures on Alpha Genes, so I'll work on getting those fixed as well! Be well, everyone!

does this mod work with gradient hairs? cause I started a new run with both, where one of my pawns had gradient hair, and her portrait rendered fine. But now, like 3 hours in, with no changes to my pawns but a new visitor on the map, i'm getting total error spam with null references from a Portraits of the RIm call, with Gradient Hair in the call stack. I'm still investigating, and can get you an error log if you want, but i just wanted to know if anyone else was having similar problems.

And vanilla expanded highmates, you have to delete the tiny tweaks collection patch folder for high-mates or every portrait has cat ears.

I've noticed that visage masks show up like a masquerade mask in the portrait but on pawns they appear to be a full face mask. Not sure if that's intentional or an oversight/bug but i figured i'd mention it! thank you!

@twopennydoodle Hello Penny, wonderful mod you have here, its a must-have for all my playthroughs. Helps me to visualize my characters and give them some personality, a face to the actions. I've made a mod called Kid's Apparel Expanded which gives kids most of the vanilla clothes from Core and the DLCs, with the DLC ones coming on the way. If you plan to draw up the clothes for the kid's portraits at some point, I can give a list of all the different clothes and armors and their variants/style variants if that helps?

love the mod, a must in all my playthrougs. please, can i suggest a feature? could it be possible to have the option to replace the colonist icon at the top of the screen with the PotR image? many thanks i think it would work great together with other colonist bar mods.

@twopennydoodle -- Penny your mod is legitimately my favourite, it is also the largest due to all of the great artwork. Using DDS and Image Opt's ZSTD compression helps a lot, but it still ends up taking up ~695.72MB in VRAM.

I'm not sure how much it'd help to support AssetBundles for 1.6, but I do know mod authors like Mlie have opted to maintain legacy 1.5-and-below version for those not updating or still needing the 1.5 version. The stated reasons are that it'd double disk usage for both 1.6 users and 1.5-and-below users as you'd essentially need to download both sets of files.

I guess if it's not too wild of a request, would you ever consider supporting AssetBundles in future in the hopes it'd help with the VRAM usage? I'm totally aware I'm part of my own problem, as I run a pretty deep modlist... just figured I'd ask! :p2cube:

@Doggias talked to my programmer yesterday! He said it shouldn't be a big edit. He's going to put a toggle into the options menu to toggle on the portrait on dead pawns

@Jane_Austen I know, and it frustrates me, too. Unfortunately there isn't a good way around it - basically the fact that they look like adults as a pawn at a child's bio age throws off how PotR works fundamentally. Basically in PotR all of the faces I made for children across all mods have to work the same way, which is set to a standard child age (7-13 years). There's just no way to alter that without making essentially an entirely new set of 1000+ adult face textures associated with that age bracket or being okay with the faces on the heads being weirdly low on the head and childlike. I don't know if that totally makes sense written out, but that's why. Fair frustration, though!

@Jabberwocky887 totally fair! I think the Mass Effect ones aren't currently on the backlog list, but once that's open for suggestions again, you should totally make note (it will be a while, though). In the meantime, though, there is a hide portrait button along the edge of the portraits. I don't believe there is a global setting, though, since likely it would hide everyone who has anything missing at that point (which is going to be the vast majority of pawns in a modded game)

@Jerek hopefully one day! I really like hair mods. As for the feature, it's a bit of an undertaking on the code side and also my concern is that it starts moving PotR into the realm of character editor, which I don't want it to be. While at this point, it wouldn't be, I am confident the next question from someone else would be if that could just be something available for things like the faces and then eventually it just becomes a character editor, which isn't in the spirit of the mod. I totally hear what you're saying here, though, and I know it isn't your intent at all, and it's a totally fair question, so don't feel bad for asking! So thank you for the kind words, and know that it's a totally fair suggestion, but that's why I don't budge on it.

Great mod! Love it for sure. 2 requests. 1. RimEffect for an asset. 2. Can you add an option to disable the portrait for missing head assets? I'd rather miss out than have a blue human instead of an Asari haha

Playing with VRE androids I noticed that the mod treats them according to their age (i.e. a newly created adult android is considered a newborn and doesn't have a portrait, an 8 year old android uses child portrait assets and so on.) is there a way to make them look always adult? Having all my androids look like they're skipping primary school is so jarring lmao

Any chance of adding support for "Nice Short Female Hairs" by Andromeda?

And a small feature idea: Maybe make the option to reroll a hairstyle that wasn't found to be its own button, so that it's easier to keep trying it until it lands on something similar? Or make it allow selecting a particular hairstyle?

But are there any plans at the moment to add any of Det's Xenotypes' assets to this mod? You mentioned other mods being put first in the queue, but I was just wondering if you were open to it.

Hey everyone! Tested Roo's hairs and put them back in (including the older ones). There's a couple of missing, but that's literally just because I've never drawn them! That would be Roo's HD Hairs and Roo's Royalty hairs (although the HD version of that is drawn). Those are on my roster, though.

Good news is, I'm actually in the works of bringing in Erin's FFXIV races - she's a friend and helped me set this mod up to begin with, so I put her and VE's stuff at the front of the line when things come out!

Hi twopenny! Is slob supposed to be one of the traits that doesn't doesn't have a face like pretty? I found a pawn with slob and a couple other traits, I tried to change their face, but slob doesn't have an option.

One more thing, and I do feel bad for asking having looked at the queue, but would are you open to making portraits for Erin's FFXIV races or Aelanna's A Rim Reborn mod? It would be two birds with one stone since they both consist of the same races from Final Fantasy XIV. Thanks again and appreciate the mod.
