I run a mod pack of around 100 mods. I spent hours loading and reloading the game with a different subset of mods each time to figure out this single mod was the needle in the haystack that has been crashing zomboid every time I try to start a new sandbox. Very frustrating, hope this comment helps out or prevents others having the same issue (present as of build 42.12.3 on 12/8/2025).

This mod crashes new saves(In my case).
I asked Gemini 3 pro with console.txt and figured it out in 2 prompts. I would've had to trial and error my way through 180 mods. But found it in minutes. Of course Gemini 3 caught more than what's necessary(it flagged KI5 mods also). But it mentioned something about ammo addons that got me looking and I found the culprit.

I spent hours troubleshooting my crashed game. Don't download this for B42 until complete.

Using deathstorms alternative version of the mod now works fine

I love how this has basically become a community cannon event. Here I am, joining the club! Fortunately, only took me about an hour to find the culprit in my mod list, but, oh boy, I did not expect it to be THIS old bud I had for such a long time. Hope you can figure out a fix!

FIX THE GAME CRASH

i spent 3 or 4 days trying to figure out what ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mod was bricking my game and this was it? wow.

I kept searching and searching for the cause of the crash and after a long time of enabling and disabling mods I finally discovered that this MF mod was the one causing the game crash
