@Radi3rd - It's called Simple Garage Doors because it's a simple solution to fixing broken garage doors. There is only the one basic version intentionally . So, no.

@ADAM - The mod is working perfectly fine, despite The Indie Stones attempts to sabotage it with each update. If this mod is not working for you then:

Please check you have the required items: Wood Planks, Nails, Doorknobs, Hinges, Screws, Scrap Metal, Steel Sheets - small, Claw Hammer, Screwdriver, Hacksaw, and Metalwelding skill of 6. Please note that the claw hammer can not be the forged version, and the screwdriver can not be the old or improvised version.

Finally, make sure your door is facing the correct way. Due to game limitations, it can only be places in 2 directions. If the mod is still not working for you, then you, some other mod is simply incompatible with it. You can try unsub/resub the mod, and cross your fingers, remove the offending mod

@Well - yeah, that's down to the devs changing the display name of what used to be just metalwelding from "metalworking" in B41 to "welding" in B42 coz they added blacksmithing and decided to call that "metalworking" insead of "blacksmithing" for some inexplicable reason.

It's not a priority fix, so just try not to think about it, or the perplexity of game devs ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

When/if I get around to making this mod more compliant with B42, I'll try to remember to change the display title, but since I really don't wanna deal with the new crafting system, updating this mod way down on my "rto-do" list :P

Haven't had the pleasure of building a garage door in my current run however i did notice that the requirement for the doors is Metalworking (5?) i believe - however it is levelling with my Welding Skill. currently 3/5, metalworking is at 0xp. not a problem at all just thought you'd appreciate the heads up. still can't wait to get one built at base!

sadly i couldnt test it now because i was going on a suicide drive and died xD but i think i just had not enough. im bad at math so thats probably it. Thanks alot for the help!

@Pupernicklel - One red tile in the door usually means you do not have everything you need on hand to craft the door. Recount your resources and try again. Other possibilities are:

1. You are attempting to build on an invalid tile. Try elsewhere (like open space) to see if the red tile disappears. If it does, there's some issue with the tile you are trying to build on. Usually this is the facing of the door (see description)

2. You have the wrong screwdriver. For some reason this mod does not like the new screwdrivers, and will only accept the original as viable to craft. I should probably fix this at some point, but then I should also probably rework the mod so that it follows the new crafting rules as well...but the idea of completely reworking this awkward mod repulses me, so I probably won't.

3. You do not have enough free space to build it. Try dropping unnecessary items you are carrying. This is true of a lot of bigger vanilla crafts too.

hey i have a weird problem. idk if its your mod tho.
so i have all items needed and can see the blueprint to actually build the door but one of the 3 door walls is always red and i cant build the door anywhere.
there was a bug right on that door i want to rebuild with your mod, there was a garage door where the left door was reversed state. it was open when the other 2 doors are closed and the other way around if i tried to close it.

@Joniponi - the mod is more meant for replacing garage doors that are already in the vanilla game. So 3 and 4 tile wide is all there is available I'm afraid.

@SS Edmund Fitzgerald - IIRC the locks got broken early in B42, and it was a pain in the ass trying to figure out how to fix them, so I settled for just removing them to get the mod working for the interim.

@Patryk1999 - This mod allows the building of replacement garage doors where applicable. It does not adjust the HP pool, nor make them invulnerable. There is a mod that increases the strength of player build structures, so maybe adding that would help?

@SS Edmund Fitzgerald - I Some I have some, they are placed on the lock, maybe some kind of mod, because without mods for some reason they are not on these gates

Unfortunately, I tried everything I could, reinstalled the game, disabled all mods, unsubscribed and subscribed again, but nothing helped.

@Monkey Magic - I would be happy to, but I don't know what could be causing this. If I turned off all the mods and turned on yours, but for some reason it doesn't work? I'll try reinstalling the game. Thanks.

@prescko - I've tested this just now, and it's working fine as is. Likelyhood is you have another mod that is causing an issue. You could try unsubbing, and resubbing to see if that fixes it. But chances are you will have to disable the offending mod.

@0o0_MadTek_0o0 - That red box usually means you are missing something - either a tool, some materials, or skill level. Can't say for sure if this mod is still working in B42.8 though, coz I haven't played recently

Hello, I would love to use it, but can't place the large garage door to replace a broken one in at the fire department in Rosewood (the left one). I don't know why the first left cell of the garage door in the preview stays red (whatever the place I try to place it)

+1 for locking support. Esp when playing with WeekOne mod, those bandits can open the door and thus it provides zero security. Thanks for the mod.

Yeah, i realise that but scrapping a bunch of cars and fences to get 20 scrap metal still seems a bit excessive to build a big garage door to me. appreciate the mod tho :steamthumbsup: just my lil thought.

@Chillspice - Dude, there is scrap metal all over the place. Zombies that destroy metal doors leave scrap metal in their wake. You can also get it from scrapping car wrecks, and other metal objects. You can also get it from foraging IIRC. You can also use my other mod, Metal Salvage that, amongst other things will let you craft 1 scrap metal for every 5 empty cans you scrap.

@CJ187 - I looked into this, and it appears to be down to how the devs changed the building system. As it stands this mod tries to call for the KeyID but fails for this reason. For non-keyed doorknobs, this is not an issue and the garage door will place without a problem. With keyed doorknobs, it fails to place and throws up an error.

EDIT

I have now updated the mod and removed the call for the keyID, allowing garage doors to be built using keyed doorknobs without an error and material loss - however the new Garage door will be non-keyed, and not lockable like the others.

As for getting keyed garage doors to actually work? That would require a complete rebuild of the mod, and building garage doors would likely be moved into the new build system. I don't really wanna do that, coz I'm not a fan of the new build system, but I'll think about it.

the mod dosnt work when you use doorknobs from main or backdoors.

西伯利亚酥皮烤鸭 - Pretty sure building has always been like that? Most construction in B41 required the character had the materials on their person to work.Or maybe it was a case of having the space in the inventory to be able to pull items from the backpack? I don't recall exactly, but the video above was B41, and it kinda implies this..

As for B42, well building and crafting got more restrictive overall. In any case, this isn't the mod responsible, it's the game's limitations..

The B42 version of the garage door cannot directly retrieve materials from the backpack and can only be carried by the character themselves, which makes the construction process more complicated

@Bobitec - No worries. Matt got me wondering on what I'd actually need to do to update this to B42, and it turns out I hardly needed to do anything. I expected it would take a lot more work, which is why I was putting it off. I figured unstable updates would potentially break it, and I didn't wanna deal with that. But yeah. no changes needed ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For now it works same as it did in B41. I may change this later so it adheres to the current system for B42 (but I'm in no rush for that, coz it's an awful system and I'm hoping the devs retcon it)

I rewrote this mod for build 42, is it okay if I reupload? It is different code but functionally it is the exact same.

So, I looked into Tori's mod. It has some extra content, but the " ISGarageDoor.lua" file is essentially the same as mine, with one particular line commented out - the line that asks if the area is a building.

This is why you believe that mod is "working just fine." but without that check the game would potentially allow the door to be placed anywhere, inside buildings, and even through them. Not something I would consider safe for the save file.

Assuming the devs have not updated the game since I last played, this mod should work fine for south facing doors (on screen) or south, and east facing in-game compass. It has been mentioned several times in comment, and even added to the description that the game will not allow placing north facing (or north and west) garage doors.

This has something to do with how the garage floor terrain has been coded I believe, but iunno for sure. Regardless this is generally not an issue, since the majority of garage doors on the map face south, and not north (and to be frank, it's kinda awkward driving through north-facing garage doors without hitting something) in any case.

I'm afraid not working properly at this moment. I have tried many ways to build both sizes of the doors. My base is the Medium Wherehouse (can view from web map projects) stands alone on the side of the road close to the Louisville military checkpoint. Garage doors of that building were destroyed by zombies and I have been trying to replace them with real garage doors and people says that other mods doesn't work either, we'll see. I am trying to build the door right on the destroyed garage doors' place where the outside part facing north and inside facing south and it shows that non of the tile parts are buildable (with RED color). Even though I try placing somewhere else it says that the left tile part of the both doors' is not buildable (with RED color againg). I'm not trying to place it inside, tried both ways though. Watched your video tutorial 4 times without passing a bit :) and I saw your comments but I really don't know how to fix this.
