Maintenance affects durability by some whacked out formula that that is often misrepresented, and misinterpreted. It is not simply adding a set value. Iunno the specifics but it is something along the lines of the value being halved, rounded down, then added back or whatever, so that only even numbers are true.
The same applies to the weapon skill level, but it's hit harder and only level 4 and 8 are true.
As for the other matter, I did not want to make wooden spears redundant completely, so I purposefully made the metal versions not able to do this.
@ShampooMoo - It's possible another mod is causing the issue or something, but iunno. Maybe try searching for a different keyword? The build and craft menus are finicky and awkward
1. A baseline "metal spear"? Comperable to the wooden spear but relying on the Welding skill?
2. Allowing Metal Spear Heads to be attached to metal rods/spear? (*insert Mandalorian flute sound here* )
Suppose we have a spear called Metal spear with magical paperclip The paperclip is ridiculously weak, so it has a max value of 1. If the condition lowers on the paperclip spear, it will break. However, coz it's a magic paperclip, we'll give it a lower chance of 1 in 100. With such a high pool, it's unlikely to roll a 1, so despite it's inherent weakness it will most likely last a good amount of time.
That's essentially how weapon durability works in PZ. You could check the files to see specifically which spear is better than another, but it's pretty intuitive. Magic paperclip aside, if it's made from a stronger item, it will likely be more durable.
Since it's rare to see an author actually respond to comments like this, I have one more question @Monkey Magic.
How does the durability of the spears work? I assume you used a similar system to vanilla, where the condition of the added knife affects the condition and damage of the crafted spear. But how exactly does this work? Would love to learn which knifes are the best to collect and which spears last the longest.
Thanks for the amazing mod and for responding fast!
They will also auto-unlock without reading the book that holds that recipe at Tier 4 in Spears or Maintenance regardless.
Does it randomly choose the recipe? I surely need something metal. I just wanna make sure it is easily craftable and doesn't take 5 metal bars and 10 ducktape haha.
Thanks for the mod!
EDIT - So I looked into the sharpness thing, and they were already set to be sharpenable (barring the hand-fork since the vanilla one isn't either) and turns out there was a small script error making it not work.
Have updated now, and the majority should be sharpenable now.
Also i'm not sure if it's an issue on my end, but I can still seemingly repair the spears despite the mod saying they can't.
The default is that all recipes are available to see, even if you can not craft them. You can search "spear", and the last option should be "Improvise Pipe Spear" which is the spear recipe for this mod. The items you need are listed in the recipe, with options depending on what you have on hand. Be sure to have the required items in your inventory in order to craft.
The tool-tip states crafting requires Maintenance level 2 - if you have found the meta recipe, you can craft early. The meta recipe is "Bind Spear" a vanilla recipe found in Wilderness Survival Guide . This unlocks two vanilla spear crafting recipes, and this recipe.
Otherwise, you'll auto-learn at Maintenance or Spears level 4. If you are not able to learn the recipe at your Maintenance level, maybe you installed the mod after reaching that level. This could conceivably prevent the auto-learn, so you'll need to find the book.
Hope this helps
EDIT - Okay, so I fixed this. The range on that particular spear was typo'd to be shorter than it should have been. I also went ahead and updated the world attachment settings, so spears should no longer look like they are sinking into the ground when dropped.
Additionally, since there were already two "Metal Spear" mods out there, I figured making a "default" metal spear for this mod would be redundant for players using either one of those mods.
Just a question, is there a reason why there's no "Pointy" Metal Spear (with no knife, screwdriver etc at the end). I think it would be cool if there's one like that with slightly lower damage and slightly lower durability.
All the weapon/armour mods I have added have some limitation, because otherwise why would anyone use vanilla weaponry?
Cavalry Sabre and Aluminum Bat can be repaired, but they can't be crafted and must be found in the found. These weapons are well balanced with their vanilla counterparts, so keeping the around for as long as one can repair them is fine.
None of the weapon from Antique Armament be be crafted or repaired. These weapons/armour are pretty powerful, and outshine all vanilla weaponry. This is why they can only be found in the world, and once broken can not be repaired.
For Metal Spears , they can be crafted, but the materials are more expensive that the vanilla counterpart. This is to balance out their durability, and also why they can't be repaired.
