@BuddyLach You likely have an addon that messes with areaportals / textures is my best guess. Try disabling all of them and load the map back up to see if it persists.

But ultimately if you stand in certain parts of the map you can see almost everything and that's just the nature of its design, seeing almost all of a massive map which has reached the brush and entity limit seems like a hopeless thing to optimise.

If I get the chance I'll see if I can reduce the number of func_visclusters I use, as most of the open air is filled with them meaning the engine thinks most of the map can be seen at once (which it basically can, anyway, but it might be worth a shot). Only problem is that the compiler crashes whenever I try to render without the visclusters lol.

Framerate in source is a lot more reliant on your CPU than GPU, as a ton of the game is handled by it, including rendering effects. Mostly a byproduct of the era the engine was made in.

I have an i5 3570k, a 3rd-gen intel chip, from 2012. Not great by modern standards but more than enough to handle Source standards at hundreds of frames per second on maxed settings at 2560x1440.

Having a ton of portals is sometimes worse than having none at all, if overdone; much like func_detail. It can result in the game trying to figure out what adjacent rooms it should render/derender if it has a lot of portals connected to it.

I appreciate ALL the feedback. If I'm able to figure out any new ways to improve fps I will, but I've built to the brush and entity limit which makes such a prospect seem unlikely. I'd have to massively simplify one of the bases for that, basically. Maybe I'll release a simplified version down the line. Thank you all for playing, though!

There definitely isn't a leak anywhere but I definitely did detail a lot of the bsp for the sake of reducing portals. Whilst a map like nycity can have areaportals splitting vis between each building and alleyway, this map is basically just one giant open room with a tall skybox and displacement ground making it almost impossible to optimise. I've certainly tried my best but know that it could be improved. I've not personally experienced single-digit framerates anywhere (I have a 1080).

I do wish I could optimise it more but I feel completely out of options

This map is really cool, not often we see a huge map with a unique style in gmod nowadays.

That being said, there is likely a leak in your map somewhere, and I noticed a few brushes (especially on curvy building parts with visible holes) have suffered some truncation from saving in regular Hammer. Some rooms in this map drop me to single digit framerates due to the presumed leak (I hope you didn't func_detail all your bsp).

i get around 50 - 70 fps on this while on nycity i get around 200 fps

@Doomslayer No worries! You might have been playing on an older version of the map - a couple of old updates were slightly corrupt.

@REDHOT I'm sorry for the inconvenience when I first played the map many things appeared wrong but the second time I loaded in, the errors where not apparent
