In case you didn't know. Nearly everything other than survivors and specials have no proper normals outside a generic flat square to save on memory and add a very basic sheen that reacts to lights.
Specular reflections use cubemaps preset/auto generated in the map and have no support for lights in L4D2 hence why they are making objects glow in the dark often due to poor cubemap placement.
env_map was a cheap way to add reflections in at the time. Especially for the 360 port.
