new update came out and sound.xml got updated. now it has new sounds and old sound.xml prevents playing new sound effects

I needed to use that file to add a few lines of code so it would see the other sound files and add them to the randomly selected pool of sounds the squirt / gurdy would play. I'm gonna try to find a fix that keeps the other sounds that play, but at least i know what the problem is now. I'm also somewhat new to modding so thank you for the help :)

Try to keep only the lines of the code you need, and delete the rest. Whenever I make sound mods I usually ONLY add the sound effect replacement and that's it under the same file directory as the original file, as seen here.

I've personally never used that extra sounds.xml file as AFAIK, it's redundant as long as you've replaced every instance you want to replace as I have in the imgur link.

I'm newer to modding so if you absolutely NEED the sounds.xml file, I'm not too sure how I can help but simply deleting the file still makes quirts make demo sounds/a single sound, which is enough for me.

That is definitely the problem, but I think I need this file since I had to edit it to make the squirts have more sounds they can play. Is there a way around that where i can keep the other sounds added?

Sure. In the mod folder you had resources-dlc3 which included the sound files of everything added from DLC 3, which I believe is Repentance. This includes the Ascent dialogue, as seen here.

As far as my modding knowledge goes, this overrides all instances of mods replacing DLC3 sounds or at the very least, the Ascent dialogue. When I deleted the resources-dlc3 file it fixed the problem.

I'm not sure if you have a reason for this file and if its integral to the mod but from my own personal testing, the squirts still yell the demo charge sound and my own Ascent mod functioned.

I know why this mod breaks the ascent dialogue. I'd love to talk to you about it on discord at some point, as far as I'm aware it's a simple fix but it depends on if you need the files breaking the ascent dialogue in the mod or not, as when I deleted them it seemed to have work fine.

@GodlyOak This is normal, squirts don't play a sound the second time they charge.

Just throwing it out there, sometimes the squirts don't play any sound when they charge for the second time as if the first sound hasn't finished playing maybe?

Weird. My ascent mod was working until I noticed it randomly stopped working after a little bit. I just assumed it was a random mod I downloaded. If there is a fix, I will happily try to implement it but currently I have no idea why this is happening.

This mod breaks ascent mods, I think? I disabled all my mods apart from my ascent one and this one, and the latter didn't work. Disabled this mod and then my ascent mod was working again. I've unsubscribed and resubscribed to the mod on PC, but it still breaks my ascent one.

I'd say unsubscribe and resubscribe the mod on PC. It seems like something didn't update correctly.

i have a question, i hear only two voicelines of squirt on pc, but on steam deck, with same mods it works properly with different sounds, can you give advise about solving this problem?
